FAQ for water and energy saving showersWhat are water saving showers and shower heads?
Flowpoint shower heads use the reduced flow technique. Replacing your existing shower head with any of our more water and energy saver shower heads can reduce water consumption by more than half and in some cases up to 60%, whilst still allowing you to enjoy a powerful and invigorating (energy and water saving) shower. Why do I need a flowpoint water saver shower head? Most people are now aware of the problem of Global Warming and the growing need to be more "environmentally friendly". By fitting your shower with a water saving shower head you will be helping to reduce this problem by saving water and reducing the energy required to supply it. This then saves you money on your Water Bills if you are already Metered and on your Energy Bills to heat the water, because you are heating less of it. They are acknowledged by the Government and the Water Industry to be considerably more efficient than conventional shower heads because of these saving attributes. Most people are concerned about leaving appliances and lights on which are not being used, so they switch them off. This is because they know it is a waste of money which is reflected in their utility bills. We need to think about our water in the same way. Most of the water we use is wasted. Think about just how much you let run away or pour away in a day. You are paying for this whether you are on a Water Meter or not. It is costing you in energy costs directly or indirectly, you are still paying somewhere along the line of supply We are all wasting money by wasting water - daily ! While water is a natural resource, it still has to be supplied. In supplying it, it has to be captured, cleaned, pumped and then re-treated as waste. This all costs money and it is paid for by us in the energy costs to do so. Using water more wisely therefore, must reduce the costs to supply it. I thought showers were more efficient than a bath!
Recent trends towards Power Showers have reversed their efficiency over baths to the point where many showers today consume more water than an average bath. Around 85% of homes have one or more showers installed today. Many of these are Power Showers or are existing showers supplied by mains water pressure from a Combi Boiler or where a Shower Pump has been installed to an existing gravity system to boost its performance. All of these showers have the same effect, they pump high rates of water per minute and depending on the system can be as much as 30 litres per minute, a reliable average is around 16 litres per minute when combined with a conventional shower head. An average bath uses around 80 litres of water. A five minute shower at 16 litres per minute uses the same. BUT how long do you really take in the shower! A flowpoint water saving shower head can more than halve this flow rate but maintain the powerful feel of your showers. By using a modern efficient flowpoint water saving shower head you can save water usage and money, not only on your water bill if you are water metered now, ( see section ' Water Meters - The Future' ) but if you are not metered now, certainly on your energy bill. 70% of water used in showers is hot. Therefore reducing the water used means you are reducing the amount of water that needs to be re-heated and therefore saving on the energy required to do this. With energy prices increasing year on year this is an added benefit of flowpoint water and energy saving showers. Will a flowpoint water saving shower head really save me money - do they really work - do they still give me good showers?
In some countries they are a legal requirement due to regular water shortages. The cost of fitting a flowpoint shower head can be recovered within 2/3 months or less depending on your existing showers flow rate. They start the savings immediately. This will depend on three things – (provided the shower is pumped as previously described) (1) how many people in the household (2) frequency of showering (3) time taken per shower.
Just replacing your existing shower head with another conventional type will not do this. Once fitted, the savings become regular. This will reflect in your annual bills. Will I still get good powerful showers?Fitting a water and energy saving shower head does not mean you will get inferior showers. Our range of energy efficient replacement shower heads are designed to save on your Water and Energy Bills while not compromising on the invigorating and relaxing feel of a powerful shower. Will flowpoint water saver shower head work on my existing shower?YES – all flowpoint shower heads will work on a Power Shower, Combi Shower or a Gravity Feed system fitted with a Shower Pump. We do not recommend them for use with an Electric Shower as these are already Low Flow. Will a flowpoint water saving shower head fit my existing shower?YES – all flowpoint shower heads will fit all existing fixed head pipes and all existing hand held shower hoses by their ½” standard thread connection. |

There are two types of water and energy saving showers. Aerated,
which mixes air and water, or Low Flow, which have a mechanism that reduces
the flow from the shower or shower head but maintains the power to still provide a forceful
full shower feel, like a normal Power Shower.
They are – showers
generally use less water than baths, they are
cleaner, more convenient and can be quick to use. HOWEVER, as they
have developed and become more popular they have also become more luxurious
and most of us do not realise just how much water they actually use in what
seems to be a short time using them.
Without
doubt. The proof is overwhelming. Many hundreds of thousands
of people around the world are already using these energy efficienct shower heads and benefiting from
water and energy saving showers.
